…Under one condition.
The former X Factor UK contestant revealed that she had been asked to perform at President-Elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony in a Twitlonger posted tonight.
Ferguson continued by saying she would be willing to perform under the condition that she is allowed to sing “Strange Fruit,” a song that was famously performed by Billie Holiday. The song, which Ferguson stated has “huge historical importance,” features lyrics protesting against lynchings and highlighting violence against African Americans.
Read Ferguson’s full statement below:
I’ve been asked and this is my answer. If you allow me to sing “strange fruit” a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial. A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington. Best Rebecca X”
If Ferguson’s request is granted, she will be the fourth addition to the Inauguration’s lineup. So far, the Inauguration lineup consists of former America’s Got Talent contestant Jackie Evancho, the Radio City Rockettes, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
