Ed Sheeran has finally returned to social media with a vague yet promising tweet featuring the color blue.
After a year long hiatus from social media and over 2 years since his last album, Sheeran tweeted an image of the color blue and updated his social media accounts to have the same shade on December 13th. Suspicions of Sheeran’s return and the possibility of new music flooded the internet for the next two weeks as fans eagerly awaited to see what else would be revealed and what this color could mean.
Sheeran confirmed everyone’s speculations on New Year’s Day with this tweet including a silent, 9 second video of himself in a cozy sweater holding up a hand written sign announcing “New music coming Friday!!”
From Sheeran’s most recent tweet, it’s become apparent that his upcoming third album will follow a similar theme of his two previous albums, “+” (“Plus”) released in 2011 featuring an orange color and “X” (“Multiply”) in 2014 with a green hue. The new album, named “÷”, will have a shade of blue and new music can be expected Friday, January 6th, 5 a.m. GMT/Midnight EST.

Even with Sheeran’s posts there are still some questions. Is he releasing a single? Will he pull a Beyoncé and release the entire album at once out of the blue? Does this mean he’ll also be having a tour? For Ed Sheeran fans, their waiting will be awarded with music and answers soon enough.
